New templateCOSadm01 2010.03.10 16:57 ↑ 0 ↓ Google have recently upgraded the importance of page loading speed in regards to Search Engine optimization. As a consequence we have changed our template from the previous one which had all the bells and whistles but could also be slow to load, to this one which has just 1 image. This results in fewer processes and allows us to handle more people at any time. All sites in the carryonshopping.co.uk network have been amended and we are increasing our promotional campaigns through twitter as a result. Commenting disabled by author. Why?

Carry On Shopping is now mobileCOSadm01 2009.11.26 12:39 ↑ 0 ↓ We recently upgraded the template to all our websites. The old template was fine and served us well but times change. The look of the site is now slightly darker. The blue colour has gone but we hope you like our new professional look. An important part of the upgrade is that we are now accessible through iphones and smartphones. Obviously this opens up the mobile market and enables us to reach more potential viewers. This will benefit all of us. Google ads have been moved and are now integrated naturally into the site. On the left hand side you will also see new articles and directory submissions now stand out.

Promotion with article syndicationCOSadm01 2009.10.18 14:24 ↑ 0 ↓ Have begun the process of submitting articles to article syndication websites.
These sites and the service they provide are an essential part of online marketing and building page rank. I've hit a snag with one of the sites though. They don't accept that in my profile I've included a link to the homepage of this site. They say it contains to much advertising. From this I don't think they mean the google ads but the actual content. The fact is of course that the purpose of this site is to display advertising in the form of articles, directory listings and web links. We are here to provide a free resource for business to promote themselves. The reason why I am linking to our homepage is that this is the page I initially want to build page rank for. It's the whole point of article syndication. Secondly the articles I've submitted are about online marketing so are directly relevant. I will now re think this strategy but have to admit I'm slightly disappointed that some sites want the content (for free) but are unprepared to accept links to sites which provide a live example of the submitters skills and expertise. Carry On Shopping May 2009 updateCOSadm01 2009.05.30 12:58 ↑ 0 ↓ The last few weeks on Carry On Shopping have been extremely exciting.
We started with the premise of a website which would help UK business survive and thrive through the recession. A key factor for us was in providing a free service and we have been able to provide far more than even we had intended originally. To begin with we felt the major UK business directories charged a fee which could not be justified on the internet. Our directory enables all UK business to post a full blown business listing (Details on the homepage). Posting business blogs or articles is very easy and as our articles are submitted to all the major social bookmarking sites and to search engines for indexing it's the easiest form of online promotion. Submitting your weblink is also free and useful for building up your page rank. We have recently uploaded nearly two million UK business listings to our directory. This is free advertising on a mass scale. So in conclusion, we have tons of free avenues for UK business to promote themselves online. I'm going back to work. Commenting disabled by author. Why?
The reality of advertising on the netCOSadm01 2009.01.14 07:20 ↑ 0 ↓ The reality of advertising and the internet is strategy and approach are similar to the offline world.
The downside of course is the majority of get rich schemes which are prevalent on the net. One sound piece of advise. If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is. When promoting on the net the safe route is to go with an established name like Yell, Thomson Local, Google, Yahoo or BT. They all provide established services and may even connect you with a lead or two. Of course the downside is you will have to pay for those services. If you are strapped for time but have the cash go with the above named companies. If money is limited but you have a couple of years to spare to build awareness of your business then it's time to get real about the net. Throw out those ideas of simply creating a web page and hoping people will visit it because they won't. Visit established business forums, read articles and do your research. Ignore any wild promises you come across. Build as many avenues as you can to lead people to your site, ensure you have regular updated content on your website, optimize for search engines, submit articles to social bookmarking sites, join and become part of business forum communities, exchange your website url with other similar websites, submit to free directories. Use as many channels as you can find. Do all of this over and over again. This is the reality of advertising on the internet. Commenting disabled by author. Why?
Woolworths Closing Down SalesCOSadm01 2008.12.10 19:56 ↑ 0 ↓ Last weeks Woolies discounts were just the beginning. The BBC are now carrying a report that Woolworths have struggled to find a buyer and in an attempt to offload stock they are starting a closing down sale from Thursday 10th December. The BBC story can be found here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7776113.stm It's a sad end to a cherished UK institution. But with a debt of over £300 million they have struggled to find a market over the last few years. This announcement means we should keep an eye open for further discounts from other major retailers.
